Al-Ameen College, Edathala, Aluva is a cutting edge Arts and Science Co-Educational Institution of higher education in aided sector. It is one of the prime institutions run by the Al-Ameen Education Trust, Kochi. The Trust is part of the Al-Ameen Movement started in Bangalore by a group of dedicated and inspired thinkers who wished to uplift the cause of education among the backward sections.

The Founder of Al-Ameen Movement, Dr. Mumthaz Ahamed Khan, is a visionary who strove to make his dreams reality. His innate integrity and compassion compelled him towards the development of the downtrodden sections of society. He visualized three major areas for effective socio-economic uplift; namely, education, health and banking. The actualization of this thought led to the establishment of the Al-Ameen Movement and its numerous institutions of excellence.

Al-Ameen Education Trust, Kochi which evolved in 1979 endorses the tenets of the parent movement in the educational institutions it runs in Kerala. The Trust currently has a Technical Training Institute, four higher secondary schools and five primary schools under its wing apart from the post graduate Arts and Science College, Al-Ameen College, Edathala.

Al-Ameen College, Edathala has a humble beginning as a junior College with five Pre-Degree batches in 17 November, 1981 on the lap of rural area of Edathala Grama- Panchayat in a serene atmosphere, comprising of 25 acres. The Institution was initially affiliated to the University of Kerala, Trivandrum. Subsequently, on the formation the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in 1983, the affiliation of the Institution was shifted to this new University.

The Institution practises the noble mission and vision of providing quality education based on personality development, character formation and communal harmony as envisaged by its founders.

The College was elevated to the status of a degree College by the affiliation of the first aided degree course, B.Com Taxation in the year of 1991. Subsequently, more aided degree courses, B.Sc Petrochemicals, B.A Economics ( Model II) and B.Sc Physics ( Model II) were started in the years 1995,1998 and 2000 respectively. The College was raised to the level of a Post Graduate College with the starting of M.Com Degree course under aided stream in the year of 2001. M.Sc Mathematics was started in the year of 2013 under the aided stream.

Self financing programmes were started in the Institution by the introduction of B.Sc Bio Technology and B.Sc MLT in the year of 2003. B.Sc MLT, a paramedical course, was re-affiliated to Kerala University of Health Science (KUHAS) in the year 2012. It no longer offered by the Institution as a programme of study. M.Sc Physics and B.Com Computer Applications were introduced in 2004. BTS (Bachelor of Tourism Studies) and BA Communicative English were started in the year of 2009 under the self financing stream. B.Sc computer science and BCA were started in 2013 and 2014 respectively and again in 2015, BBA course has been sanctioned.

In year 2006 the College is being included under sections 2 (F) and 12 (B) of the U G C Act. Al-Ameen College was declared as a Minority Educational Institution by the Government of India in the year of 2008. In 2015 was notable in the history of the Institution with the accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC).

After completing nearly four decades of its inception, Al-Ameen College has to its credit 11 under graduate programmes, three post graduate programmes and one vocational programme. IGNOU study centre approved by IGNOU is a mile stone in the distance education provided by Al-Ameen.

The College is open to students of all castes and creed, as envisigated in its lofty vision to cater the higher education aspirants of the society, educationally and economically marginalized sectors of rural population belongs to different community, consists of most of women.

The college community comprises of 1365 Students, 77 teachers and 37 number of non teaching staff. More than 60% of the students are girls.

Al-Ameen College is dedicated in the mission to develop ICT competence, social responsibility, a realistic awareness of life situations and global competencies among students. The College is working towards achieving an educational level that will be beneficial for the holistic development of its students.
