Department of Tourism

The Department was established in 2009 with the starting of an undergraduate programme in Tourism. The Bachelor of Tourism Studies is a professional degree course, that offers both theoretical and practical knowledge about the tourism industry. The course includes On-the Job training programmes and also gives practical training in itinerary preparation. Seminars by expert and experienced resource persons as well as a tour in the final year help build a comprehensive awareness of the Tourism Industry.

PARAMBIKULAM TRIP HELD ON 24/08/2016
We the department of tourism conducted a trip to Parambikulam tiger reserve, Palakkad on 24 th august. Parambikulam is a well protected ecological portion in Nelliampathy. It is one of the most protected area and a very attractive place. It is an abode for wildlife and we had treasured memories of animal sights in the lap of Mother Nature. We had been allotted a paid nature camp and went on a jungle safari the very first day. There was a power point presentation at the nature study hall. We were provided with good food and accommodation at hornbill dormitory at a very reasonable rate. Next day we went for trekking for about two hours and a boating. Indeed our trip was a memorable one and we enjoyed a lot.

Hill Palace Visit and Kerala History Museum On 04/11/2015
The First Semeseter students of BTS Degree programme conducted a visit to the Hill Palace and Kerala History Museum, on November 4,2015. The Hill Palace, Kerala's first heritage museum noted for royal collections of the erstwhile Maharaja of Kochi, is today the largest archaeological museum in Kerala. Built in 1865, the palace complex consists of 49 buildings in the trational architectural style of Kerala, sprawled over 52 acres of beautifully landscaped terraced land which houses a deer park and facilities for horse riding. The Students found this very helpful as they got an insight of the culture of kerala history. We propose to conduct such events in future when students can learn history and see and experience in front of them.
 
Old Age Home Visit On 22/09/2015
Old age homes are all over the world but the best one are sometimes lost lonely and unhappy. Nobody not even science can explain love and bonding and affection between a mother and child. Every mother wants her children to be happy. But when she is pushed into an old age home she feels very sad. As part of our extension activity we the department of tourism conducted a visit to a government old age home situated at Thevara. It was really a joyous experience for all the students to visit an old age home and interacted with the inmates. We arranged a musical show for the inmates and also sponsored the lunch for the day. Our students learn a great moral lesson of extending true care and warmth to people who are in real need. The performance of the Band Phoenix also added a colorful extravaganza to the event. The entire programme was co-ordinated by the faculty of tourism department comprising Sinulal.K.S , Deepthi Laiju and Sumayya Shafeek.
 
Visit To Blind School On 09/10/2014
Students visited School for the Blind at Keezhmad on 09.10.2014. The school provides primary and secondary education to visually impaired students. This was an eye opener visit and it helped the students to know the problems of the visually impaired kids. They could understand how these kids are educated at the school.
 
FESTIJOS 2014 Held On 29/09/2014
Tourism Day celebration was held on 29.09.2014, Monday 10.30AM at the college Seminar Hall. The chief guest of the day was Sri. P Rajeev , Member of Parliament. Prof. K M Abdul Karim, Principal welcomed the gathering. The session was presided by Prof. C P Babu, Principal, Mar Osthatheos College, Trichur. He was the Tourism Club Co ordinator of Trichur District for five years. His speech was very stirring and encouraging to the students. Sri. Rajeev , M.P lighted the lamp and gave his inaugural address. Sri. A T C Kunjumon, Kalamassery counselor and Mrs Abida, Edathala Punchayath member are the other guests of the program. The program concluded with cultural dance and vote of thanks. After the formal session the exhibition stall was opened . Students were encouraged and supported to come out with innovative ideas. They presented Incredible India, selected seven states of India, in separate stalls giving all informations of the state in detail. The stall was inaugurated by Prof. K M Abdul Karim, Principal. They wore traditional dress and costumes, one male and one female of each state. Various handicraft items of the states were displayed. Another working model was Shimla Kalka railway, a narrow gauge railway in North-West India which is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages . A presentation was also displayed simultaneously to show the actual working of the railway. Al Lailathul Arabia , a desert night with the glimpse of Arabian culture, food and beautiful Arabic sceneries at its best was set. Sri. P Rajeev, Member of Parliament inaugurated the model. The students served Arabian dishes to the guests. Snow World, a snow capped mountain, was primed by the students. Prof. C P Babu inaugurated the model. The snowman and the low temperature increased the ambience of snow world. There was a picture gallery also. Another working model, a Chinese fishing net, colloquially known as Cheenavala, was prepared at the college entrance.
 
WORLD TOURISM DAY
Department of tourism celebrated WORLD TOURISM DAY ON 26/09/2014. Students distributed a tourism greeting card with a key chain and a toffee to all staff members and students at the college entrance to celebrate world tourism day. The event was made more colorful as the students wore the traditional attire of Kerala and they invited all for the tourism day programme which was arranged on 29/09/2014.
 
CYCLE RALLY Held On 22.09.2014
A cycle rally was organized for the students on 22.09.2014. The theme of the event was tourism & community development. The purpose was to generate eco friendly efforts and public attention towards tourism. The rally was started from Aluva palace at 10.30 A.M, flagged off by Mr Vijayan, circle inspector. All the students actively participated in this program and travelled about 7.5kms with placards. They were received by Prof.K.M Abdul Karim, Principal and other teaching staffs at the college portico.
 
Inauguration of Tourism Association 2014 - 2015 Held On 18/09/2014
The inauguration of the Tourism Association was held at the College Seminar Hall on 18.09.2014 at 11.00 A.M. The chief guest of the day was Mr Shaji Keloth, from GVHSS, Kunnupuram.The function was presided over by Prof. K M Abdul Karim, Principal, Al-Ameen College. Following his presidential address, the chief guest lighted the lamp. In his inaugural address, he inspired the students to become environmentalists who would be assets to the Tourism Industry. The function was highlighted with cultural events by our students. The function concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mrs Vidhu Binny, HOD, Department of Tourism.
 
SEMINAR BY RIYA TRVELS 22/11/2013
Department of Tourism has organised a seminar for B.T.S Students , related to "JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN TOURISM" INDUSTRY on 22 November 2013. The programme was oriented to familirize the students with the job oppertunities and new openings in Tourism industry such as Airline industry, Travel Agency, Hospitality industry, Department of tourism and Transport. The class was handles by Mrs. Vasantha Menon and Prem, training co-ordinators of Riya Travels. The resource persons they were handled the session related to the Qualities required for a good staff in this industry. At the end of the programme they were interacted with the stuents and give some gift of them.
 
SEMINAR BY SPEED WINGS AVIATION ACCADEMY
Department of Tourism has organized an orientation class for BTS Students, related to the Airline Industry on 1.11.2013. The programme was oriented to familiarize the students with the formalities and new openings in airline industry. The class was handled by Mr.Biji Eapen, Chairman & CEO, Speed Wings Aviation Academy and National President IAAI [IATA Agents Association of India] and AIATC [ Association of IATA Authorized Training Centers]. The resource person was competent with all the aspects of his subject was able to converse to the students regarding the new and innovative concepts of airline industry. This class was very effective for the students to understand the aviation Industry.
 
BICYCLE TRIP Held On 13/10/2013
Kochi-based Cochin Bikers Club (CBC) and Happy Bikers conducted a bicycle tour on October 13, 2013 to the "Malayattoor -Athirappally Falls 200 BRM" - brevet 2013. It was a 200 KM ride from Ernakulam to Athirappally covered in 13 hrs. Passing through Muvattupuzha, Perumbavoor, Athirappally and Angamaly before returning to the starting point. Six students from Al – Ameen participated in this programme.
 
TOURISM DAY CELEBRATION HELD ON 26/09/2013
The department conducted The World Tourism Day 2013 in Al Ameen campus and outside the college. Students suggest their ideas. With the support of teachers & students, department of tourism conduct world Tourism Day 2013 in Al – Ameen Campus on 26 September 2013. Seminars, Quiz competitions are the other activities conducted with the sapport of leading institution in travel field such as Tomas Cook India Ltd, Speedwings aviation academy etc . The Tourism day celebrations started 26th September 2013 with a classical fusion by Vishnu Priya (II B.Com Tax) and Aisharya (II B.Sc Petrochemicals), the students of al ameen college. Tourism Day Inauguration by Assistant collector Mr. Suhas IAS (2012 Batch IAS officer). The chief guest of the function was Mr. T N Jayashankar (Secretary, District Tourism Promotion Council Ernakulam) Mrs. Jiss Theres H.O.D welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided over by Prof.Abdul Karim, Principal, Al-Ameen College. This was followed by felicitation given by The college Manager Mr. Abdul Rahman IPS and Mr. Mahaboob, delivered the falicitaition. Followed by the inaugural session the real celebration started. The students of dept. of tourism organized a warm ambiance to the college. This was including Ecozone, Gallery; Go to Heritage, Nadan thattukada, Tree Hut. The exhibition area Inaugurated by Mr. Abdul Rahman IPS ( Manager, Al –Ameen College).
 
QUIZ COMPETITION HELD ON 26/09/2013
Tomas Cook India Ltd, Cochin and Department of Tourism of Al- Ameen College conducted the Quiz competition as the part of Tourism Day Celebration. The students of Govt. HSS Kunnumpuram , Darloom HSS Pulleppady and the students of Al – Ameen participated in this competition. This was conducted on 26 September 2013 at College Seminar Hall. Concerned members of TCI were handle the session. The students of B.Com Taxation won the prize.
 
TOURISM DAY CELEBRATION WITH DTPC Held on 27/09/2013
The Students of Department of tourism participated in this auspicious function conducted by DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council) in a boat. The whole programme was based on the theme, Water and Tourism, Protecting our common future. Sri Jolly Thomas, Trainer in Yachting gave a brief narration on it. And shared his experience. Elocution competition and debate were held as a part of the celebration. Our college team has won the debate competition.
 
ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION HELD ON 26/08/2013
The department of tourism in Al Ameen College, Edathala started on 2009 June. Every year department activities started with Association Inauguration. This was named "Allons" means "Try something new". This year’s association programmes stared with association inauguration on 26th August 2013 at college seminar hall. Followed by the presidential address, Prof.Abdul Karim, Principal, Al-Ameen College, the programme inaugurated by Mrs. Sijimol Jacob (Tourism Teacher Dar-ul-oom Higher Secondary School, Edappally. Tourism day celebrations declared by Mrs. Jiss Theres with in this function and delivered vote of thanks.
 
KERALA HISTORY MUSEUM VISIT HELD ON 13/08/2013.
Department of tourism conducted a Kerala History museum visit on August 13, 2013. This was an amazing experience for the students. The Art and History Museum complex has been the realization of Mr.R.Madhavan Nayar (1914-1996), a prominent industrialist and philanthropist. This museum is currently managed by the Madhavan Nayar Foundation, is a Charitable Trust and Non-Profit Organization. Firstly we visit the Dolls Museum. In the Dolls' Museum, we would be greeted by a wide range of Indian dolls. This museum has a collection of about a hundred and fifty hand-crafted dolls. The dolls represent young men and women, from Gujarat to Nagaland and from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. There are brides and bridegrooms from various Indian states; dance figures representing the rich repertoire of Indian classical dances as well as folk dances in groups. After that we visit miniature art Gallery featuring reproductions of Indian miniature art, the Museum of Indian Miniatures is yet another attraction at the Art and History Museum complex. Devoted exclusively to miniatures, the works are of Indian artists trained by Persian masters in the latter half of the 16th century during the reign of Emperor Akbar. Then we move on to the Art Gallery With over 200 original paintings and 30 odd sculptures by well known Indian artists, this museum unit is spread over three floors. Some of the noted Indian artists whose works are on display here include that of Ravi Varma, M. F. Hussain, F. N. Souza, Jamini Roy, Kishen Khanna and Nandalal Bose. This museum has among its displayed items a mural painting based on the skrit drama Shakuntalam, done in the traditional Kerala mural style. It is 25 ft. long by 5 ft. wide and is one of the largest in Kerala, noted for its fine attention to details. Last but least we visit the historical museum. This was a visual therapy of history of Kerala. In this was visualized the important events in the history of Kerala. Visitors can easily understand the history of Kerala.
