Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer science was established in the year 1996 with Computer Science being offered as a complementary subject of the B.Sc Petrochemicals course. The department now offers complementary, subsidiary, and vocational options for courses offered in the college such as B.Sc Petrochemicals, B.Sc Physics, B.Com Computer Applications, and B.A Economics. The department promotes a student-centered approach for teaching through seminars, presentations, project work, assignments and ICT supported learning methods. IT oriented services to all in-house activities of the college. The department has played a vital role in automating the college office and all the departments in the college.

WORKSHOP ON ETHICAL HACKING & CYBER SECURITY HELD ON 12.01.2017 & 13.01.2017
The department of Computer Science organized a workshop on Ethical Hacking on 12.01.2017 and 13.01.2017. The venue of the workshop was the Computer Lab of the department. Inaugural address was given by Mr. Pramod C Menon (Manager, Wipro Technologies, Cochin). The resource person was Mr.Amish Verma (Senior Research Engineer, Mass Brain Systems, Noida). The two day workshop was highly informative and it provided the participants on the opportunities available in the upcoming technology of Ethical hacking. All the participants was awarded with a participation certificate. Few of the outstanding participants were selected for participating in competitions on the subject to be conducted at IIT, Kanpur.
 
THE DIGITAL INDIA PROGRAMME HELD ON 05/12/2016
The department of Computer Science organized an awareness program on "DIGITAL INDIA" on 05-12- 2016. The class was conducted in a colony near AL-AMEEN COLLEGE, EDATHALA. The aim of the program was to enrich the public about cashless economy. Department teachers Namitha Salim and Shameera V K along with the students of the department conducted the program. An audio visual clip was exhibited on the use of debit and aadhar cards instead of cash for money transfer. Over 20 people residing in and around the colony enthusiastically participated in the session. The feedback received was highly encouraging as the participants actively participated in the post class discussions and cleared many of their apprehensions about Digital India.
 
an exhibition on E-Waste Held on 8/12/2015.
As part of Al-Ameen Fest, Computer Science Department conducted an exhibition (E-Waste) on 8/12/2015. By utilizing the waste products of electronic components like monitor, UPS, CD, memory chips, ICs, resistors, capacitors etc. students created variety of items like aquarium(using monitor), robot (using keyboard, mouse, speaker etc), disco ball(using CD’s), windmill(using memory chip, motherboard, expansion slots etc), ornaments, table lamp, clock(using CDs), bags(using CDS) etc. The exhibition was innovative. Students and faculty members from various departments, non teaching staff etc. visited the stall and commented their opinions.
 
SEMINAR ON MOODLE ON 17/11/2015
A workshop based on Moodle, which is a free and open- source software learning management system written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License was conducted by COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPT. at conference room, Al-Ameen College, Edathala. The resource person was Prof. Jino John (ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, SNGIST, N.Parur) on 17/11/2015.The seminar was informative to all the faculty members who attended the session. From the discussion with the resource person, we came to know that this e-learning software will be useful for our students to improve their academic growth if we install it in our college.
 
A Workshop on Advanced Network Technologies on 30.10.2015
The department of Computer Science organized a Workshop on Advanced Network Technologies on 30.10.2015. The Workshop is conducted by C M S it Services Pvt. Ltd. and the resource person was Mr. Alwin Wilson, Executive Trainer and Mr. Shihabudheen T S, Executive Marketing. The Programme was conducted at the Computer Lab of our college. The workshop aimed at enriching students of our department about the various advanced network technologies available and how to make use of it in configuring networking etc.
 
SEMINAR ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT HELD ON 08.10.2015
The department of Computer Science organized a Seminar on Career Development on 08.10.2015 in association with Vallathol Smaraka Vayanashala, Pukkattupady. The Programme was conducted at the Seminar Hall of our college. The resource person was Mr. Benny Mathew, Employment Officer. The seminar aimed at enriching students of our department about the EQ, IQ, interests in various areas and aptitude tests.
 
Computer Science Association Inauguration Held On 23/09/2015
Association of Computer is an organization of students (TRAGNAZIO) from Computer Science Department undertaking various events to display the activeness of the students of computer science department. Various events where conducted over the past few years for creating more awareness among students. In the academic year 2015-16, the association was inaugurated by Shri. Arun Ravi, CEO Agroma Private limited, Kalamassey. Student representative Mr. Mahesh Mohan, III Year Computer Science welcomed the gathering. The chief guest spoke about "How to start up new IT Company". The meeting was presided over by our respected Principal Dr. Anita Nair. Inauguration function was followed by felicitation by Dr. Cini Kurian, HOD of Computer Science and Mr. Sasidharan M B, HOD of Commerce. We conducted various events like Quiz, Debate, Computer Game Competition, Mask the Product, and Photography Competition in connection with the inauguration ceremony. Students participated in these events with great enthusiasm and the winners were awarded for their brilliance. The session was concluded with the vote of thanks by Safna Rasheed, III Year Computer Science.
 
SEMINAR ON ANDROID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT HELD ON 27.02.2015
The department of Computer Science organized a Seminar on Android Application Development on 27.02.2015. The venue of the seminar was the new Computer Lab of our department. The resource person who conducted the seminar was Mr. Siyad K K and Mr. Fawas M/s Aaptra, Ernakulam. The seminar aimed at enriching students of our department about the new operating system Android and the application development in Android. The workshop was about 1½ hours and was very informative.
 
ONE DAY PROGRAME -"A STEP TO CYBER-WORLD" 0n 08/12/2014
Department of computer Science of Al Ameen College Edathala conducted a one day programme "A Step to Cyber-world" , for students of Govt HS Nochima on 08/12/2014. It was a programme based on community extension of the department. The programe started at 10.30 am and Welcome speech was deliverd by the convener of the program, Sona A. Programme was inuagrated by HOD of computer department Prof.Dr Cini Kurian. 25 students and three teachers from the Govt HS attended the programme. The main objective of the programe was to make the school students aware of the usage and benefit of internet and how to use internet for their academic benefit. Teachers as well as students of Computer Department conveyed the idea to the invited students of the Govt H S Nochima. After the session a vote of thanks was delivered by Prof.Jyothy Joseph. The Programme was a grand success.
 
ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR NON-TEACHING STAFF Held On 01/11/2014
As fulfillment of long time demand from the part of non-teaching staff of Al-Ameen College for basic training in MS Office and to clear internet related doubts, a one day training programme on “MS- OFFICE & Internet” was conducted for their benefit as part of the extension activity by the Department of Computer Science. The training was given by department teachers Mrs. Vijaya Gopinath and Mrs. Beenatries N Joy. The participation was highly encouraging and all the participants were enthusiastic and co-operative.
 
Seminar On "IT ENTERPREUNSHIP" Held On 31/10/2014
The department of computer science organized a seminar for the computer science students. The topic was "IT ENTERPREUNSHIP". The resource person as well as the main guest of the seminar was Mr.Jino.P.John, Asst. professor at SNGIST College, N.Paravur. The seminar was conducted on 31st of October,2014 at 2.00 P.M in the conference hall of the College. The seminar was presided by Dr. Cini kurian, HOD of Computer Science Department and Dr. Anitha Nair, HOD of English Department. The seminar was really motivating and useful for the students. It creates awareness about the wide range of job opportunities in IT field.
 
DISTRIBUTION OF CERTIFICATE FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME HELD ON 30/09/2014
As a part of Skill Development Programme for students of Department of Computer Science a course for "Hardware Training" was given by M/s Accel IT Academy in the last academic year from January to March 2014. The Certificate of the programme was given away by our beloved Principal Shri.K M Abdul Karim on 30.09.2014 at our Conference Hall. Smt.Anita Nair, IQAC Co-ordinator,Smt. Safia C K, HOD Dept. of Chemistry, Mr.Rahul - Manager Accel IT Academy, Safeej - Faculty - Accel IT Academy, Staff and students of Dept. of Computer Science were present in the function.
 
Smart Board Literacy Programme on 28/02/2014
Department of computer Science organized a "Smart Board Literacy Programme" for the staff of our college on 28/02/2014. The aim of the Programme is to introduce "Interactive Whiteboards" which overrides the problems of chalk-board methods. Which impart a ICT supported teaching system.
 
"ONTARIO" - EXHIBITION ON COMPUTER SCIENCE AND HARDWARE On 26/02/2014
The department of Computer Science organized an exhibition on 26.02.2014. The venue of exhibition was the seminar hall of Al-Ameen College. The program was inaugurated by respected Principal of our college,Prof.K M.Abdul Kareem. The Exhibition aimed at enriching students of our College as well as School students with knowledge of PC hardware. About 150 students of various department of Al- Ameen College as well as Al-Ameen International School visited the exhibition. The exhibition was from 10.30 am to 3 pm hours. As per the feedback obtained from the visitors the exhibition was a grand success.
 
SREE NARAYANA SEVIKA SAMAJAM On 16/01/2014
Faculties – Mrs.Vijaya Gopinath M and Mrs.Beenatries N Joy and first year students of the Department of Computer Science visited Sree Narayana Sevika Samajam on 16th January 2014 for offering their services as part of the community extension activity for the benefit of the local community. The visited institution include Ananda Bhavanam - The Orphanage, Santhi Mandiram - Home for destitute women, Visrama Sadanam – old age home, Library, bakery, curry powder unit, printing press etc that function under the Samajam. The students visited the entire institution and spent time with inmates of old age home and presented a cultural programme and played games for the entertaining the inmates of old age home. The department sponsored a lunch for all the inmates numbering over 250 and shared the same with them.
 
A View Class Room
Department of Computer Science has initiated to start an A-View class room in the college. Towards the initiative the live interactive classes offered by A-View team of Amritha University have been made available to staff and students of the college.
 
Computer Literacy Training Program For Kudumbashree Units Of Edathala Grama Panchayath From 21/10/2013 to 25/10/2013.
As a part of Extension Activity 2013-2014,Department of Computer Science conducted the Computer literacy Training Program for members of Kudumbashree Units of Edathala Grama Panchayath A five day training programme has been conducted for the members of Kudumbasree units of Edathala Grama Panchayat from 21/10/2013 to 25/10/2013. About 21 members have attended the training. Hands on training has been given to the participants on Ms-OFFIE , MS-EXCEL and different applications of internet including E-mail .

Department of computer science organized a Seminar on "Introduction to Google Applications" on 18.10.2013 at 11.30 A.M. The resource person of the seminar was Mr. Murughan.R., Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, M.E.S College, Marampilly. The seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Abdul Kareem , Principal Al-Ameen College.
 
Inauguration of Computer Association
The Computer Association was inaugurated on 18.10.2013 at 10.30 A.M. Principal Prof.Abdul Kareem has inaugurated the session. Inauguration function was followed by felicitation by Dr. Anita Nair , IQAC ,coordinator.The students of the computer science department have conducted QUIZ programme and treasure hunt for students of other departments.
 
"WORKSHOP ON PC ASSEMBLING" Held on 21/08/2013
The department of Computer Science organized a workshop on PC Assembling on 21.08.2013. The venue of function was the seminar hall of Al-Ameen College. The program was presided by respected principal of our college, Prof. K M.Abdul Kareem. An address speech was delivered by HOD of Computer Science Dept, Prof. Cini Kurian. The resource person who conducted the seminar was Mr.Ramesh.
The workshop aimed at enriching students of Al-Ameen college knowledge of PC hardware as well as assembling basics of a computer. About 47 students of various department of Al-Ameen College attended the workshop. The workshop was about 3 hours and the session ended by the vote of thanks delivery by Ms.Muhsina of first B Sc. Computer Science.
 
Computer Literacy Program For Kudumbashree Unit Of Edathala Grama Panchayath Held On 20/04/2013
Department of Computer Science Organized "Computer Literacy Program" for Kudumbashree Unit Of Edathala Grama Panchayath on 20th April 2013. The main objective was to improve the social and economical self-sufficiency of women through digital empowerment. E-literacy is a vital factor for the social and economic development of women today. Through this computer literacy programme, women should be able to introduce them to new and necessary information so that they are able to explore more and better options for a better quality of life. Our objective would be to look at the training as an overall learning experience for the Kudumbashree unit members. It provides an interactive experience that they will enjoy. The programme matches the level of challenge to the capability of the individual learner to ensure an appropriate level of challenge and learning. Giving creative space is important to bring their imagination to life and to develop inspiration, wide ideals and an active imagination which may constantly lift them to a higher and finer level. A need has been identified to bring the benefits of IT within reach of women in rural areas. The world is in the threshold of a new revolution where time and space will no longer be barriers for communication.
The training program has been divided into two parts.
1) Basic Computer Literacy: The first part of the training programme for Kudumbashree unit members comprises of a basic Computer literacy module.
2) Computer Aided Learning: Once the basic Computer Literacy need is addressed, expansion into education in the fields of introduction of softwares & its applications. The objective of the second part of the training is to teach them the basic applications of each software. Our effort is to make learning a pleasure for them by capturing their interest and bringing the excitement of learning for them.
