The The national service scheme is functioning under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is a voluntary organization for students and teachers to involve in rural development programme and to participate in the socio-economic life of the community. It is a student centered programme in which projects are implemented by the N S S volunteers in close collaboration with the community. It provides vast scope for the students to interact with community. Members of NSS are eligible to get weightage of bonus marks for admission to higher courses.


The symbol of the NSS is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. It stands for community as well as change and implies the continuous striving of National Service Scheme for social transformation & upliftment.

N.S.S unit had been in this college since 1982. Now there are 140 committed member volunteers. It aims at "Personality Development Through Community Service" and upholds the slogan "Not me but You". It conducts various programmes like Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayathi, NSS Day, World AIDS Day, World Environmental Day etc every year enthusiastically. Anti-ragging campaign, anti-drug campaign, health awareness programme, blood donation camp etc are also being conducted in this college under the auspices of the NSS.

NSS yearly conducts two mini camps fir a duration 2days and a special camp for 7 days. An remarkable achievement of NSS unit is the introduction of a gratuitous pension scheme for the poor living in nearby college.






EZHUTHUMARAM IMMORTALIZES WRITERS HELD ON 21.02.2017
On International Mother Language Day on Feb. 21, the NSS unit of Al-Ameen College in association with the Department of Malayalam paid rich tribute to deceased Indian writers by planting saplings in their name in Ezhuthumaram ceremony held on the campus. The saplings representing each writer had something to do with their works; the Purple Mangosteen tree which gave shade to Vaikom Muhammed Basheer to write and Neermathalam (Three-leaved caper) which appears as a nostalgic note in Madhavikutty’s writings. Lalithambika Antharjanam, Saraswathiyamma, VKN, Kovilan, Kakkanadan, G. Sankarakurup, A. Ayyappan, P. Kesavadev, Thakazhi and other language writers U.R. Ananthamurty, Mahaswetha Devi and Sundara Ramaswamy will be remembered by the students as the saplings grow big. Mr. Aslaf Parekkadan, Member, Dt. Panchayath, inaugurated the programme. M.B. Sasidharan, principal in charge , Abdul Salam, NSS programme officer, Prof. Shahanoor beegum, NSS programme officer and Kamaruddeen M.H. and Sahad A.A, student participants, were present on the occasion.
 
VARASANTHWANAM- A HELPING HAND HELD ON 14/02/2017
NSS volunteers and students of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, conducted Varasanthwanam, a fund-raising programme on February 14, 2017 aimed at supporting a student of MES college, who is affected by blood cancer. The programme saw Ebrahim Badusha, a portrait artist from Aluva, drawing the pictures of students free of cost while the students, almost 100 of them, donating as much as they could in a bucket placed near the venue. The money thus collected was handed over to the ailing student. Anita Nair, principal, M.B. Sasidharan, vice-principal, Abdul Salam, NSS programme officer, Shaniba M.H, former NSS programme officer and Kamaruddeen M.H. and Sahad A.A, student participants, were present on the occasion.
 
NATURE TRIP HELD ON 19.01.2017
NSS unit of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, conducted a nature trip to Eravikulam to create green awareness for selected NSS vounteers. 34 volunteers participated in the trip. Forest officials explained the students about the habitat and lifestyles of nilgiri tahrs, which is endemic to the region. NSS programme officer Prof. Abdul Salam A.P. and former NSS programme officers Prof. P.M. Abdul Hakkeem and Prof. Shaniba M.H. accompanied the students.
 
ROLE OF YOUTH IN NATION BUILDING HELD ON 12/01/2017
The National Youth Day is celebrated in India on January 12 on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda to honour the great mind . The Government of India declared birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day in 1984 and since then the day is celebrated in India every year . The NSS unit of Al-Ameen College, Edathala observed the National youth day by conducting on open discussion on the topic” role of youth in nation building.”. The programme started at 11.30 a.m. in the courtyard of the college. The programme started with the introduction of the topic by Prof. Abdul Salam NSS Programme Officer. The Open Forum Was inaugurated by Dr. Anita Nair ,Principal Al-Ameen College. She discussed about the importance and the role of youth towards the nation. Prof. Shahanoor Beegum, NSS Programme Officer was the moderator for the discussion. Around 40 students participated in the programme. They shared their views with the participants. They unanimously supported the view that the vision of our country lies in the hands of our youths. They are of the opinion that youth are filled with tremendous and towering ambitions. It will be a great wastage of human resources if these youths are not given an opportunity to exercise their talent. They commented that the role of the youth is the most important in today’s time. They have underplayed themselves in the field of the politics. Youth are strong forces in social movements. Youths are problem solvers. Our nations need them to resolve most of our problems They just need to be given a chance to prove themselves . They argued that the entire success of the nation depends on the youths. For that it is the Government’s responsibility to provide the youth with proper facilities for, getting equipped with the knowledge of the modern era. The Programme concluded with view that the role of the youth in the nation building is crucial. They are problem solvers, have a positive influence on other young people and the nation, and are extremely ambitious. They have the ability to create an identity for themselves and move the nation forward. SEVEN DAY SPECIAL CAMP FROM 23/12/2016 - 29/12/2016
The NSS Unit of Al -Ameen college organized seven day special camp from to 23/12/2016 to 29/12/2016.This was a fully Residential Camp for both boys and girls. The venue of the camp was Al-Ameen College of Medical Sciences, Edathala. The camp started with the registration of the volunteers at 2.00 p.m. .The NSS programme officers and the NSS Volunteers made arrangements for the camp . And at 5.00 p.m after the tea Prof. Abdul Salam(N S S Programme Officer) made a talk on the topic " importance of Organic Farming in ones life" . He explained the process of organic farming, different methods of organic farming, and details of various web dealing with organic farming. The NSS Volunteers promised to construct an organic vegetable garden in their home. After the dinner they were grouped under one leader and various committees were formed for the smooth conduct of the camp.
24/12/16 The second day started with the inaugural meeting at 10.a.m. with NSS Song. Prof.Shahanoor Beegum(NSS Programme Officer) welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided over by Dr.Anita Nair (Principal. Al Ameen College). Mrs. Mumthas (President, Vazhakkulam Block Panchayath inaugurated the camp. She shared her NSS experiences with volunteers. Mrs Abida Shereef (Ward member andChairman,Standing¬Committee,-EdathalaPanchayath), Adv.T.P.M.Ibrahim Khan ,Chaiman Al-Ameen Educational Trust and senior advocate in the High Court Made keynote address on the topic "Social Services and Youth". He encouraged the volunteers to engage in volunteerism and social work along with their student life so that they can initiate change in society. Janab P.K. Ali, (PTA Vice President, Al-Ameen College) felicitated the function. The inaugural session concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Abdul Salam( N S S Programme Officer). The second session started at 12.00. noon with ice breaking session. It was handled by Mr. Shabeeb Rahman from Calicut. This session aimed at creating self confidence and a feeling of friendship and cooperation among volunteers. After the lunch break Mr. A.P. Muralidharan ( Kerala Shasthra Sahythya Parishath) lead an interactive session on the topic "Green Awareness and Eco-Feminism".He divided the volunteers into groups and asked them to comment on various aspects of the society. He explained the difference between gender and sex to the volunteers . The Volunteers actively participated in group dynamics that rose their mental physical strength. The last session of the first day was “The Sky Watch” and was led by Dr. N. Shaji Head Of the Physics Department, Maharajas College, Ernakulam.. The moderator of the session was Dr.Sreeja .S, Assistant Professor in Physics, Al-Ameen College. The Volunteers are thrilled by seeing Saturn and stars in the sky . They enjoyed the session very much. After that camp review session was arranged ,during review session volunteers reviewed the programmes conducted and they gave suggestions for improvement. At 11.00 p.m. the second day of the camp came to an end by wishing Christmas to all.
25/12/16 The second day started with Yoga at 7.00 a.m. The yoga was practiced by Dr. Dino Varghese , Physical Education Department , Al-Ameen College. After breakfast the volunteers assembled at auditorium at 8.30 a.m. Prof K.M. Abdul Kareem, Former Principal , Al-Ameen College visited the camp .He shared his experiences as an NSS Programme Officer and motivated the volunteer by singing nostalgic songs. After the tea break Prof. A.A. Mohammed Thahir (Trustee Al-Ameen Education Trust ) interacted the volunteers with the topic “ Society ,Mental Health and Youth”. He reminded the volunteers about the importance of reading.. Afternoon session started at 2.30p.m. by an open discussion on the topic “ Currency Demonetization - Merits and Demerits”. Prof. M.B. Sasidharan , Vice Principal , Al-Ameen College Edathala was the moderator for the discussion .Sri M.K. Abu, President,Service Co-Operative Bank, Edathala, Prof. Abdul Hakkeem , Head of the Economics Department, Sri. P.K. Abdul Rahman , Rtd. Joint RTO were present in the discussion . They discussed how demonetization affected various sectors of the society. Sri . M.K. Abu shared his view on how it affected on the Co-Operative Societies. All of them expressed their views frankly . It was an interesting session . All Volunteers actively participated and they cleared their doubts about currency demonetization. The session came to an end by the Christmas Celebration by cutting the Christmas cake by Prof. M.B. Sasidharan and the Volunteers performed various programmes. From 6.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m volunteers engaged in preparation of Magazine. They were divided into groups and discussed about the topic for their creativity. It was compulsory that every volunteer should contribute at least one writings to magazine. At night they presented various cultural programmes. During review session volunteers reviewed the programmes already conducted and they gave suggestions for improvement.
26/12/16 On Monday at 7.00 am volunteers assembled for Yoga practice led by Pof. Abdul Salam . A.P. ,NSS Programme Officer . After assembly at 9.00 am Mr.M.R Surendran Secretary, District Library Council visited the camp. He also explained the importance of book reading in moulding the life of a person . pointed that books are our friends in a real sense , they demand nothing from us. They give us plenty of joy. He also said that books inspire us to work hard with hope and courage. They remove our ignorance and add to our knowledge. Books enrich our experience and sharpen our intellect. He concluded that a good book is our true friend. After the tea break , the volunteers assembled for the next session .It was led by Sri V.T. Job, Civil Excise Officer on the topic “ Drug and Teenage”. He discussed about the addiction of teenagers towards drugs. He explained the evil effects of drugs among teenagers. His class made the volunteers to quit drugs and such things. After the lunch at 2.00 p.m am volunteers started cleaning programme as a part of Swatch Bharath. They cleaned the sides of the road from the front of the college to Combara. The Programme officers, neighbours encouraged with them and provided with snacks and juice. At 7.00 p.m. a group discussion on the topic” Local Development,¬Environmentand Women Empowerment”.The Al-Ameen Education Trust Treasurer, janab. K.M Shamsudheen was the moderator for the discussion . Mrs. Sajitha Abbas ,President, Edathala Grama Panchayath, Mrs Abida Shereef , Ward member and Chairman, StandingCommittee,Edathala Grama Panchayath, A.A.Mahin Ward member and ex-Chairman, Standing Committee, Edathala Edathala Grama Panchayath Mr. C.M. Ashraf member, Edathala Grama Panchayath, Mr. Reji Prakash, Ward member , Edathala Grama Panchayath were present in the discussion. They discussed about the progress and prospects of Edathala ,Grama Panchayath. They discussed about various schemes for women empowerment. After the dinner the NSS Volunteers reviewed the camp and made suggestions for improvement.
27/12/16 As usual the day started with yoga under Kamarudheen M.H. ,Volunteer Secretary. The practice of Yoga helped them for their physical and mental refreshment. The first session of the day was handled by Prof.Leena Varghese (Department of Commerce) on the topic “ The Path to Success”. She depicted the victorious story of many famous personalities. This class motivated the volunteers very much After the tea break ,a session on the topic ” Role of Youth in Elimination of Corruption” led by Mr. Rajeesh, Vigilance& Anti-Corruption Bureau was given to the volunteers. He told that the nation belongs to its youth. They are the makers of tomorrow. So to live in a society, that is corruption free, we need people with quality, of mind and thoughts .In his opinion corruption is one of the greatest evil that shakes the backbone of any society. More than a matter of need, corruption has become a subculture, a common practice, a necessary evil. So youth should come forward and take take steps to eliminate corruption. The Volunteers expressed their views and suggestions to eliminate corruption. All of them actively participated in the session. After the lunch at 2.00 p.m am volunteers started cleaning programme. They cleaned the sides of the road . The cleaning programme at .6.00 p.m. From 7.00 p.m onwards volunteers engaged in preparation of Magazine.. At night they presented various cultural programmes. During review session volunteers reviewed the programmes already conducted and they gave suggestions for improvement.
28/12/16 The day started with Yoga practice under Mohammed Fawas, NSS Volunteer .At.9.00.am the volunteers assembled at auditorium. One of the highlights of our seven day special camp was the Free Ayurvedic medical camp in association with Sudheendra Ayurveda Hospital, Ernakulam on 28/12/2016.The registration for medical camp started at 8.00a.m.The medical team consisted of two doctors and paramedical staff from the hospitals. The camp was inaugurated by Mrs. Sajitha Abbas ,President, Edathala Grama . More than 100 people got the benefit of medical camp. Afternoon session started at 2.30p.m. Dr. George Varghese, Clinical Psycologist led a class on the topic ” Teenage and Mental Health” . The volunteers enjoyed the evening session with the folk music by Prof. Sabuji, (Department of Malayalam).The volunteers along with the programme officers stepped with rhythm of folk music. At 7, 00 P, M. a debate was conducted on the topic “ Digital India- Prospects and Challenges”. All the volunteers expressed their opinion on the subject. The debate was moderated by N S S Programme Officer Prof. Shahanoor Beegum.
29/12/16 As usual the day started with yoga, the volunteers assembled in the hall at 9.00 a.m. The group leader read the report and all the volunteers shared their experiences in seven day camp. Then they were dispersed for Camp Cleaning. The Valedictory session started at 11 a.m. Prof, Abdul Salam, N S S Programme Officer extended whole hearted welcome to all guests. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Anita Nair Principal, Al Ameen College. Mr.Aslaf Parekodan, Member District Panchayath, Ernakulam inaugurated the meeting. In the function Mr. Smijan , Kerala Kaumudy Chief bureau released a beautiful magazine “ A( Sahaniyam)” created by the volunteers under the leadership of Miss. Revathy Sivan,Volunteer Secretary. The magazine was appreciated by all members in the meeting. Miss . Liya (I B com Computer Application) selected as the best Camper and Miss Afiya as the best worker of the Seven day camp. Mr. Kamarudheen M.H. , N S S Volunteer Secretary proposed vote of thanks. The meeting ended at 12.30 p.m. All the volunteers’ along with programme officers checked out the camp at 2.30 p.m. after the lunch.
 
Anti-drug seminar HELD ON 11.11.2016
NSS unit of Al-Ameen College, in association with Kerala Kaumudi daily, conducted an anti-drug seminar 'Bodha Paurnami.' The programme organised in college auditorium was inaugurated by P.N. Unniraja, Alwae rural SP. He reminded that drugs can be done away only with the active participation of the public. Dr. Anita Nair, principal, Al-Ameen College, presided over the function.
 
THREE DAY INTERCOLLEGIATE CAMP FROM 23/09/2016 TO 25/09/2016
The NSS Unit of Al-Ameen College Edathala organized a three day intercollegiate camp for the NSS volunteers from 23 rd September to 25 th September 2016 . The aim of the camp is to give a platform to discuss the various aspects of social media among the young volunteers. The camp started by the registration of NSS volunteers at 2.00 p.m. The inauguration function started at 4.00 p.m. The programme was presided by Dr. Junaid Rahman , Manager Al-Ameen College Edathala. Dr.Anitha Nair, Principal, Al-Ameen College, Edathala welcomed the gathering and depicted the importance of social media. The three day camp was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Njaliyath , translator and Sahitya Academy Award winner, discussed dimensions of social media and its impact on youngsters . And he appreciated Al-Ameen NSS Unit for selecting the topic “ Youth and New Social Media”. He also pointed out the achievements of social media like facebook by making Anbodu Kochi, which is led by Rajya Manikam, the former Collector of Kochi city as an example. Advt. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, Chairman Al-Ameen Educational Trust gave the keynote address. Prof. Muhammad Thahir , Joint secretary, Al- Ameen Educational Trust ,Prof. M.B.Sasidharan ,Vice Principal Al- Ameen college, K.P. Ali P.T.A Vicepresident felicitated the occasion. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. Shahanoor Beegum NSS Programme Officer. The first session started at 5.00 p.m by a motivational class by Thomas Wilson, Programme Officer Training and communication Blue Point Organisation Trivandrum. He has presented his class very interestingly. He explained the slogan of NSS ‘ Not Me But Thou’. He conducted many interesting games and portraits message through the game. He also gave tips to love ourselves, to admit our personality and to respect ourselves. And also shared the importance of sacrifice in ones life to attain heights. After the dinner a creative session started, NSS programme Officer Prof. Abdul Salam provide a space to NSS volunteers to exhibit their skills by dividing them into groups and gave each group a topic like silence, screaming, laugh etc. to exhibit their talents through poems and writings. The second day of the camp was started at 6.30.a.m with a meditation which was led by Mr. Jayakrishnan and team which spread freshness among the volunteers . After the breakfast, first session started and was handled by Adv. Harish Vasudev , Asianet Keerthimudhra Award Winner and Environmentalist. He spoke on the topic” New social media and social interpretations “ .In his class he shared some aspects on massmedia and its journalism aspects. Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and Media are four pillars of our democracy he said. And he used social media through social networking sites to express his opinion . According to him, Social media is a virtue public space where the teashop, public library are vanished from rural areas. The second session of the day started by Mr. Kuzhoor Wilson, a great poet and media worker who talked on the topic “ Influence of New social media on language and literature.” He started the class by reciting a poem. And he was the first man who started the first Malayalam blog for poetry in 2006. He made the class more interesting by his poems and speech. He ended the class by singing a beautiful poem “ Veetilekkulla Vazhi”. The next session started at 2.00p.m by Mr. Manoj Karigamadathil, on the topic “Information and new social media”. He explained the different aspects’ to seek information on Wikipedia. He provided a wide range of information regarding Wikipedia. In olden days webpage was only meant for reading but when Jimmy Wales founded Wikipedia , it is like a public wall where any one can edit and contribute. After this session the most beautiful moment happened ,the visit of Dr. Sabukuttan, NSS Programme Co-Ordinator MG University to the camp . And he released the magazine “ Prayer book of silence Screaming” by handing over to Kamarudheen K.H. and Revathy Sivan , Volunteer Secretary and to Ashar P.S former Volunteer Secretary. And he also explained new schemes of NSS such as cleaning of Sabarimala from Pamba under the programme of swatch Bharath,visit to100 villages and instructed NSS Volunteer to take part in these programme actively. The fourth session was led by Mr. Rishikesh Bhasker, Swathantra Computing, Admin ICU . He handled the topic “ Satire on New Media”. ICU stands for International Challu Union ,which was a whatsupp group created by B.Tech Students . He gave ideas about troll. Five NSS Volunteers share their troll experiences. He discussed the concept memeem . The next was a vibrant and energetic session. “Nattusandhya” which was led by Prof. Sabuji Lecturer department of Malayalam . He made a festive mood in the camp with folk songs and rhythm. It was a nice experience for the volunteers and they enjoyed very much. After the dinner cultural programme of volunteers conducted . NSS Volunteers performed their talents. Most of the Volunteers effectively participated in the programme. The last day started with a meditation at 7.00 p.m. The first session of the day handled by Thalahath P.M. Civil Police Officer , Cyber Cell on the topic “ Use of New social media in light of Cyber Laws”. He discussed various advantages and disadvantages of internet . He portraits various cases handled by him under cyber Laws . And made the volunteers aware of each and aspects of cyberlaws. It was a thought provoking section. The Valedictory session started at 12.00 p.m. The function was presided by Prof. P.M.Abdul Hakkeem, former NSS Programme Officer. The function was inaugurated by Prof. M.B. Sasidharan ,vice Prinicipal Al-Ameen College Edathala. The volunteers shared their three day experiences in the camp and gave their feedback of the camp. Prof. Sreeja.S. Assistant Professor Department of Physics shared her views and the programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Abdul Salam NSS Programme Officer.
 
STUDENTS CLEAN HOSPITAL HELD ON 09/09/2016
NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, cleaned the surroundings of Public Health Centre Edathala, as part of Swach Bharath Pakwada. Dr. Anju Medical officer, Public Health Centre Edathala, inaugurated the programme. More than 60 NSS volunteers took part in the sanitation drive. Prof. Shahanoor Beegum and Prof. Abdul Salam, NSS programme officers, lead the function.
 
ORGANIC VEGETABLES SALE HELD ON 06.09.2016
Organic vegetable sale was conducted under the aegis of Edathala Al-Ameen college NSS unit. The sales targeted at celebrating a pesticide-free Onam in the houses of students saw more than two quintals of vegetables being sold off in two hours. Principal Dr. Anita Nair gave the first kit to Prof. M.H. Shaniba, NSS former prorgamme officer. Prof. Abdul Hakim and NSS programme officers Prof. A.P. Abdul Salam and Prof. Shahanoor Begum were present.
 
ORIENTATION FOR NEWLY-ENROLLED NSS VOLUNTEERS HELD ON 15-08-2016
Orientation Programme for newly-enrolled NSS volunteers was conducted at college Auditorium on Independence Day 15/08/2015. Prof. I.V. Soman, Training Co-ordinator, NSS Training Centre, addressed the new volunteers. He explained the roles and duties of a volunteer. Prof. Shahanoor Beegum and Prof. Abdul Salam, NSS Programme Officers were present on the occasion. Prof. P M Abdul Hakkim, former NSS Programme officer, M H Kamarudheen, volunteer secretary, Revathy Sivan, Muhammed Azhar, NSS volunteers spoke on the occasion.
 
A TABLE QUIZ COMPETITION HELD ON 27/07/2016
NSS unit of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, observed the first death anniversary of India’s former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in a befitting manner. Posters written by students carrying the thoughts and messages of the great visionary were displayed at various places of the campus. A table quiz competition on the life and contributions of Mr. Kalam was conducted afternoon. The programme was managed by former NSS volunteers Fathimath Jaseela (Final Year BA English) and Kamila Bashir (Final Year BScPhysics). Al Fahad and Suhail (Final Year BCom Taxation) won the first prize while the second prize was bagged by Sufeera and Aleesha Ali (Final Year BCom Taxation). The programme was supervised by Prof. Abdul Salam and Prof. Shahanoor Begum.
 
WORLD YOGA DAY CELEBRATION HELD ON 21-06-2016
NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala celebrated “International Yoga Day”. The NSS programme officer Prof. Abdul Salam welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Anitha Nair, principal, Al-Ameen college .The yoga session was handled by Yoga expert Nimmy M Menon who explained about the importance of yoga to the the volunteers. She said that Yoga was a spiritual discipline uniting body, mind and soul and was a way to give exercise to our bodies, our breath, and our minds. She also reminded the volunteers that yoga reduced blood pressure, helped to reduce back pain, and it provided positive intervention for cancer patients, providing them exercises that help to give them more positive outlooks and reduce anxieties that cause them sleep-loss and nervousness. She illustrated various asanas for curing various problems like migraine, back pain etc. After a brief description, fifty volunteers actively participated in the Yoga programme.
 
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY HELD ON 05-06-16
NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala celebrated the World Environment Day. Dr. Anitha Nair, Principal Al-Ameen College, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sajitha Abhas, panchayat president, inaugurated the function by planting saplings on the college campus. The former NSS programme Officer Prof. Shaniba M.H. also planted saplings. Prof. A P Abdul Salam and Prof. Shahanoor Begum lead the programme. All NSS Volunteers actively participated in the programme. They planted various plant samplings on the campus. The theme of the year 2016 was “Zero tolerance for the illegal wildlife trade”.
 
NSS CAMP 2015-16 AT K N M CHARITABLE COMPLEX,EDATHALA FROM 19/12/2015 TO 25/12/2015
NSS Unit of Al amen college organized seven day special camp from 19/12/2014 to 25/12/2015.This is the first ever fully Residential Camp for both boys and girls. The venue of the camp was K N M Charitable Complex, Edathala. On the first day the registration started at 8.30.a.m. The inaugural meeting started 10.a.m. with N S S Song. Prof. Abdul Salam (N S S Programme Officer) welcomed the gathering. The meeting was presided over by Dr.Anita Nair (Principal. Al Ameen College). Mr. Anwar Sadath, M L A. Aluva inaugurated the camp. In the function Mr. A.A.Mahin (Ward member and ex-Chairman, Standing Committee, Edathala Panchayath) inaugurated the library sponsored by the N S S Unit . Mrs. Mumthas (President, Vazhakkulam Block Panchayath) handed over the toys bought by the volunteers to Mrs. Shamla Principal K N M Special School. Mr. C.M. Ashraf (member, Edathala Grama Panchayath), Mr. Liyakath Alikhan (Treasurer, K N M . M E S Charitable Complex), Mr. E.V. Satheesan (P T A President, KNM MES Special School, P.K.Ali, Joint Secretary E S Charitable Trust, felicitated the function. The inaugural session concluded with vote of thanks by Rahimeen K.B, N S S Volunteer Secretary.
 
WORLD AIDS DAY on 01/12/2015
Aids Day was observed by National Service Scheme, Al- Ameen College and students made the day memorable by drawing pictures and noting down messages on the canvas prepared in the campus. Orientation Programme for newly enrolled NSS volunteers was conducted at college Auditorium on Gandhi Jayanti Day. Prof.I V Soman, Training Co-ordinator, NSS Training Centre, addressed the new volunteers. He explained the roles and duties of a volunteer. Prof. M. NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, cleaned the surroundings of Public Health Centre Edathala, as part of NSS day celebration. Students Onam Celebration with Poor Home Inmates on 21/08/2015
Adding a note of humanity to its Onam celebrations, NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen college, Edathala, visited Home for the Aged and Infirm of Chunanganveli. They brought a smile to the aged and disabled 70-odd inmates when Prof. Anita Nair, Principal, handed over “Onappudava’ to them. The money was raised after cutting short much glamour from the Onam celebrations inside the campus. Prof. K H Shaniba and Prof. Abdul Salam, NSS Programme Officers, Prof. Sini Kurian, IQAC co-coordinator, Professors M B Sasidharan and P M Abdul Hakkim were present on the occasion.
 
OBSERVED HIROSHIMA DAY ON 06/08/2015 -
The NSS Unit of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, commemorated 70th Hiroshima Day by making and flying 70 Sadako birds, remembering the tragedy of Sadako Sasuki who succumbed to the deadly radiation of “Little Boy.” The students also displayed banners and posters against war. Dr. Anita Nair, Principal, inaugurated the programme by drawing an anti-war image. Prof. K H Shaniba, Prof. Abdul Salam (, NSS Programme Officers), Prof.P M Abdul Hakim and Prof. Sabuji CV were also present on the occasion.
 
A Tribute to Dr.Abdul Kalam Held on 30/07/2015.
The NSS Unit of Al Ameen College, Edathala, has planted 11 saplings as a tribute the former president of India, A P J Abdul Kalam. NSS Programme Officers Prof. M H Shaniba and Prof. Abdul Salam, lead the function. Dr. Anita Nair, Principal, paid floral tributes in front of Kalam’s portrait drawn by volunteers.
 
Students seek practical tips from organic farmers - Visit to Organic Farm on 29/07/2015
The NSS volunteers of Al-Ameen College, Edathala, visited local organic farms to receive practical tips on organic farming as they are planning to set up a small organic vegetable farm in the college premises. The students discussed different farming methods and variety of seed with the Thomas, Kozhikodan Chaal, who has been successfully implementing organic farming at 13-odd acres of land. Prof. K H Shaniba and Prof. Abdul Salam, NSS Programme Officers lead the visit.

AIDS DAY- 01/12/2014
NSS Unit of Al Ameen College has observed AIDS Day on 01/12/2014. This day is dedicated to raise awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease. It is often observed with education on AIDS prevention and control. In order to create awareness among our students, this year.ANTI- AIDS TREE has bloomed in our campus against AIDS. The whole Al Ameen college family has got an opportunity to express their feeling against AIDS. They wrote on the paper leaves which were hanged in the Tree. In association with NCC we have organized Rally. The students hold placards raising awareness against AIDS among the public. The Rally was flagged off by our Principal Prof.Abdul Kareem.
 
BLOOD DONATION CAMP ON 23/10/2014
NSS Unit has organised a Blood Donation Camp on 11th February 2014 in association with the Blood Bank, Aluva. Prof. K M Abdul Karim , Principal, Al Ameen College, Edathala inaugurated the Camp. Dr. Sulekha Mohammed, Camp Medical Officer, Blood Bank Aluva, Mr. Sajo Joseph, Blood Bank Councillor, Mrs. Beena K R and Mrs. Aiswarya, Blood Bank Nurses were lead the camp. 37 Students donated blood in this camp.
 
Key Handover Ceremony of "Sneha Bhavanam" on 21/10/014
The key handover ceremony of newly constructed NSS house “snehabhavanam” by NSS Unit of Al Ameen College was held on Tuesday 21/10/2014 at 11.a.m.in a colorful function. The venue was Al Ameen International Public School Auditorium. The function was presided by Sri .M.A.M.Muneer,President, Edathala Grama Panchayath.. Prof. Abdul Karim, Principal Ameen College delivered welcome speech .In the proud moment Sri.K.Babu, Hournable Minister for Excise, Fisheries and Port, handed over the key of Snehabhavanam to Mrs.Nabisa. The function was blessed with the presence of Adv.T.P.M.Ibrahim Khan, Chairman, Al Ameen Educational Trust , Mr.Siyad Koker (Secretary Al Ameen Educational Trust), Mr.K.M. GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATION ON 02/10/2014
NSS Unit of Al Ameen College has celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a befitting manner. In connection with the day we have organized a cleaning programme.we have selected both sides of the road in front of our college.NSS Programme Officers Prof.Abdul Hakkeem and Prof.Shaniba.M.H. gave the guidance to the volunteers. They were divided in to 5 groups with a team leader. Each team was allotted specific area for cleaning. The volunteers took part in the progamme with great enthusiasm. They proved that they are dedicated to do anything for the society. The programme ended by 4.00 P.M.

NSS Unit has organized an Orientation Programme for newly enrolled NSS volunteers from first year degree classes at 10.A.M.on 15/08/2014 at Seminar Hall. The Resource person was Prof.Satheesh Potty from D.B.College. He has served as NSS Programme Officer for long period. The programme started with NSS Song.Prof. Abdul Hakkeem, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Prof. Potty explained the goals and objectives of National Service Scheme. He urged the volunteers to work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. Independence Day Celebration 2014
NSS Unit of Al Ameen College has celebrated Independence Day in a befitting manner. All NSS volunteers reached in the campus at 8.30.a.m. Our respected manager Dr. Junaid Rahman hoisted flag at 9.00.a.m and gave independence day message. He urged students to uphold Indian culture and to protect Indian freedom at any cost. CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSE FOR A POOR FAMILY IN EDATHALA PANCHAYATH BY NSS UNIT ON 31/03/2014
NSS Unit has decided to construct a house for a poor family in Edathala Panchayath. The application was invited from the needy family. From the application we have received, the College Committee consisting of the Principal, two programme officers and Staff Advisor selected Mrs.-Nabeesa aged 62yrs, a poor widow in Edathala panchayath. The Staff Committee decided to mobilise fund for construction from staff and students, stakeholders and well-wishers. The construction started in a function on 31/03/2014 .It was attended by Adv.T.P.M.Ibrahim khan, Chairman, Al Ameen Educational Trust. Sri M A Mahin, Ward Member, Teachers and students.

ANTIDRUG CAMPAIGN ON 30/01/2014
An Antidrug campaign was organized in Al-Ameen college ,Edathala on 30th January 2014. Under the auspices of NSS unit of Al-Ameen College, Kerala Koumudy daily and Kerala Excise Department. The campaign was inaugurated by Mr. V Ajith Lal, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Kerala Excise department. . Prof.K.M.Abdul Karim, Principal presided the function. The campaign was organized with the goal to "influence the attitudes of the public and the news media with respect to drug abuse" and of "reducing and preventing drug abuse among young people .Mr. E M Sajeev, Assistant Excise Inspector and a member of Anti Drug Squad of the Kerala Excise Department delivered the keynote address. More than 150 students participated in the campaign.

NSS has conducted a Career Guidance Programme in association with Edathala Yuvadhara Library & Reading Room and District Employment Exchange for our students on 02/01/2014 at seminar hall at 2.00 P.M. Prof.Abdul Hakeem, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Prof.Abdul Karim,Principal Al Ameen College inaugurated the programme. He briefed the need and importance of correct guidance for the students .The resource person Mr.M.N.Prabhakaran, Ernakulam District Employment Officer opened the galaxy of opportunities for the graduates before the students in the Govt, semi Govt. and private sector. NSS SEVEN DAY, SPECIAL CAMP FROM 20/12/2013 TO 26/12/2013 NSS unit of Al Ameen College conducted Seven Day Special Camp at Govt. Higher Secondary School Kunjatukara, Edathala from 20th December to 26th December 2013. The camp was inaugurated by Sri. M A M Muneer, President, Edathala Grama Panchayath. Prof.K. M.Abdul Karim, Principal, Al Ameen College presided over the function. On 21st December NSS Volunteers along with Nature Club of our college participated in the "Go Green Project", cleaning and planting tree saplings on two sides of NH road at Nedumbassery Grama Panchayath. On 24th December we have organised a Medical camp at Govt School for the public. Smt. Sajida Siddique, Standing Committee Chairperson inaugurated the medical camp. Around 200 people got the benefit of the medical camp. Other important activities in this Special Camp includes digging of compost pit in Pukkatumughal colony, cleaning of Chinnukulam,a public pond in Edathala Panchayath, Debates, Seminars and Awareness Programme on various topics. On Christmas Day, we visited SOS, Chiidrens Village in Edathala..In a simple function our respected Principal Prof.Abdul Kareem handed over a cheque to sponser a child for one year.Our volunteers spent lot of time with the kids there. The Seven Day Special Camp closed on 26th December . Sri. M K Abu, President, Edathala Service Co operative Bank inaugurated the closing ceremony.

NSS Unit of Al Ameen College in association with Red Ribbon Club has observed AIDS Day on 02/12/2013.The main programme on the day was Aids Awareness Talk by Dr.Tom Wilson from T.D.Medical College, Alappuzha. The programme was presided by Principal Prof.Abdul Karim .Dr.Tom Wilson gave very interactive session to students and explained how we can make an AIDS Free society. Students raised doubts during the session. Following this session we have arranged a Positive Talk by Mr.P.I.Johnson, Peer Group Counsellor, Kerala State Aids Control Society
 
NSS DAY ON 24/09/2013
Al Ameen College NSS Unit has observed NSS Day on 24/09/2013. A debate on “Marriageable Age for Girls ”, one of the most discussed subject in recent time was organised as a part of the programme. Students from various departments have participated the debate. The programme started with the message from the Principal, Prof. K m Abdul Karim. He reminded the students that they must have a mind which always ready to help others. He also appreciated NSS Unit for selecting a relevant topic for the debate. Prof. S Sreeja, Dept. of Physics was the moderator. The participants were divided in to two groups – for and against. The two groups substantiated their arguments. Haris I H (III B Com), Mohammed Sufiyan (III B Com) argued that there is no need for fixing age limit for marriage Fousiya Beevi (II B A Economics), Muhsina (I B Sc Computer Science) and Majitha (III B Com) strongly opposed the proposal of lowering the marriageable age for girls. Prof. Abdul Salam, Prof. Shaniba M H Prof Leena Varghses also expressed their views.
 
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION On 14/08/2013
NSS Unit of Al Ameen college in association with NCC Unit has organised two day Independence Day celebrations. The students have participated in celebrations with great feeling of patriotism. On 14th August Quiz competition on freedom struggle and patriotic song competition were arranged for the students. Students from various departments have participated. The winners were awarded attractive prizes. On Independence Day, the celebrations started with flag hoisting by Mr. Faisal , Sub Inspector of Police, Aluva. The message of the day was given by Prof. K M Abdul Karim, Principal, Al Ameen College. NSS Unit has also arranged sapling of Thousand plants inside and outside the campus. Mr. Faisal , has also inaugurated the programme. NSS Volunteers actively participated in this programme. After lunch the volunteers have presented various cultural programmes.
 
MALAYA DAY Held On 26/07/2013
NSS Unit of Al Ameen College has observed Malala day on 26/07/2013 to commemorate the sacrifices of Malala Yousafzai , a Pakistani school pupil and education activist from the town of Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan. Malala was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' education in Pakistan.UNO has declared November 10 as Malala Day. The programme started with NSS Song. Prof.Shaniba M.H, NSS Programme Officer gave summary on the life of Malala to the volunteers. Dr. Anita Nair, HOD, Dept. of English and IQAC coordinator gave the message of the day. She inspired the students that to show courage and dedication in others. The volunteers took pledge that they would stand against terrorism and anti social activities. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Ms.Aswathy Vijayan, NSS volunteer secretary.
 
DISTRIBUTION OF MATTRESSES TO ANGANVADI,NOCHIMA
As a part of Community Extension Programme, NSS units of Al Ameen College have organised the distribution of mattresses to kids of Anganvadi, Nochima on 13/06/2013. We also arranged "PRAVESANOTSAVAM" for newly admitted kids. The function was attended by eminent personalities from outside .P.M.Abdul Hakkeem, NSS Programme Officer has delivered welcome speech. The Principal , Prof.Abdul Kareem has presided over the function. He reminded that NSS Unit of Al Ameen College has an important role in the overall upliftment of poor people in Edathala Panchayath. Mr. A.A.Mahin, (Standing Committee Chairman, Edathala Panchayath) has inaugurated the function and distributed mattresses .In his speech he appreciated NSS Units for its active participation in socio economic problems of people in Edathala Panchayath.Mr.A.X.Joseph (President ,Cochin East Rotary Club),Pro.M.B.Sasidharan( HOD,Department of Commerce),Mr.Yousaf (Member,Anganwadi Welfare Board),Prof.Shaniba.M.H. (NSS Programme Officer) have felicitated over the function. The function concluded with vote of thanks by mrs.Geehta, Anganwadi Teacher.
 
Palliative Care Training Program Held On 08/12/2012
30 selected volunteers from NSS and Red Cross were given training programme in Palliative Care at Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital, Kadavantra on 08/12/2012.The training session was led by Dr.Jose Babu, Chief Medical Officer, Alpha Pain Clinic, Ernakulam. After the speech there was a training session on Palliative Care - the method of treating the patients was held.

An Anti Drug seminar was conducted by NSS unit on 4/10/2012 at 10.00 A.M with the active support of Kerala State Excise Department and Kerala Koumudi daily. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Anwar Sadaath, MLA Aluva. Prof. Abdul Karim, Principal, Al-Ameen College presided the function. It has been formerly inauguratedon 04/10/2012 at 2.00 P.M. Mr.Anwar Saadath , MLA, Aluva, inagurated the function. Adv. Observed Gandhi Jayamthi. A campaign on "Plastic Free Campus" was done by volunteers and they removed all rubbish and waste from the college campus.
